Do
What to Do
Be Accurate and Truthful
- Only share layoffs you experienced firsthand, witnessed directly, or can point to credible reporting for
- Be as accurate as you can about dates, departments, locations, and the number of people affected
- Make clear what you know firsthand versus what you heard secondhand
- Correct any mistakes you notice in your submissions
Be Helpful and Detailed
- Include relevant details where you can — which teams were affected, how notice was given, and the timeline
- Share practical information that helps others, like how severance or benefits were handled in general terms
- Share your experience so others going through the same layoff feel less alone
- Add context that might help others understand what's happening at a company
Be Respectful
- Remember that people here may have just lost their jobs — lead with kindness
- Use appropriate language and tone in comments
- Respect that people can experience the same layoff very differently
- Help newcomers understand how to use the platform
Be Responsible
- Protect your own anonymity — leave out details that could identify you if you want to stay anonymous
- Talk about companies and decisions, not individual coworkers by name
- Report inappropriate content or behavior
- Follow up on your submissions if you learn new information

When reporting a layoff on our platform:
- Stick to what you know: Only report layoffs that have actually been announced or that you experienced directly
- Label uncertainty: Be clear about whether a layoff is confirmed, planned, or rumored
- Cite your source: If you're reporting from news coverage or a WARN notice, say so
- Update if things change: If numbers or dates turn out to be different, add a correction
Important: LayoffTalk is an informational resource. Layoff records may be incomplete or delayed, and community posts reflect individual experiences. Always confirm details with official sources before making career, legal, or financial decisions — nothing here is legal or financial advice.
