State filings show Adventist Health reported 122 staffing changes systemwide with 22 of those affecting its Central Valley/Kern locations. Adventist Health Central Valley spokesperson Kiyoshi Tomono said these were not traditional layoffs to reduce headcount for financial savings but part of a departmental reorganization affecting quality, risk, infection prevention and sanitation. The organization said all affected Central Valley workers have been offered new positions in Kern performing the same work. Adventist framed the changes as reorganizational rather than cost-cutting, and noted timing sensitivity given concurrent cuts at other local health systems.

Adventist Health implemented a restructuring initiative that resulted in layoffs across multiple Central Valley facilities, including Adventist Health Bakersfield. In Kern County, 15 positions were affected across four facilities, one of which is Adventist Health Bakersfield; Kings County saw 12 positions cut at Adventist Health Hanford. The changes, effective Friday, stem from centralizing and standardizing roles within Quality, Risk, Infection Prevention, and Accreditation departments as described in a WARN letter dated June 25. Adventist Health said some eliminated roles were replaced by new centralized positions and more than 80 employees statewide accepted offers to transition into the new structure. The nonprofit characterized the move as alignment to ensure accountability and deeper expertise, affecting facilities in 13 counties and totaling more than 100 employees statewide.

Adventist Health framed the workforce reduction as an organizational realignment to create a more centralized operating model, saying many affected employees have been or may be considered for newly created centralized roles; more than 80 workers had already transitioned into new positions as of June 25.
