Layoff timeline
1 EVENTBP plans to cut around 700 non-frontline jobs globally, representing roughly 8% of its 8,500 non-frontline roles in the company's production and operations business. The reductions are part of a move to simplify operations, reduce debt, boost profits and refocus on oil and gas after scaling back renewable investment; BP reorganised into two segments under CEO Meg O'Neill. BP said frontline roles (operators, technicians and maintenance) are not expected to see material changes. The figure comes from an internal email seen by Reuters and a BP spokesperson acknowledged proposed reductions without confirming the exact number. As of 2025 BP had about 93,700 employees across 61 countries.
