5 EVENTSFortrex, a contractor that cleans several Tyson Foods facilities, notified the Nebraska Department of Labor that its contract at the Tyson Fresh Meats pork plant in Madison, NE, is being discontinued, and Fortrex will cease services at that plant effective September 19, 2026. As a result, Fortrex said the change will result in the layoff or relocation of all eligible Fortrex team members at the Madison plant, totaling 91 jobs. The company noted it had held the contract since November 2001 and previously laid off 139 workers earlier in 2026 after losing a contract at Tyson's Lexington beef plant. Tyson said ending the Fortrex contract does not reflect cutbacks among Tyson Foods team members and the Madison facility remains operational.
Atlanta-based Fortrex (formerly Packers Sanitation Services Inc.) filed a WARN notice on Aug. 20 announcing it will lay off 50 workers in Blountsville, Blount County, Alabama. The layoffs are scheduled to begin Sept. 11, 2026, according to the notice. Company spokespeople did not respond to requests for comment. The article notes Fortrex has carried out multiple prior rounds of mass layoffs in Alabama between 2023 and 2024 that affected more than 400 workers, and references past safety and hiring controversies as context.
