1 EVENTGeorgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC plans to permanently close its Tacoma gypsum facility at 1240 Alexander Ave., eliminating 120 jobs. A notice filed with the state and a letter to the Washington Employment Security Department say affected employees are expected to be laid off on Oct. 30, though some jobs could end earlier or later and some workers may remain to assist with the shutdown. The company said it will provide at least 60 days of pay and benefits in accordance with federal and state WARN laws. The eliminated positions include production associates, loaders, forklift operators, maintenance workers, electricians, supervisors and managers; some hourly employees are represented by Teamsters Local 117 and employees do not have bumping rights.
