Heartland Human Care Services announced it will close three Chicago facilities this spring and lay off a total of 140 employees, a move attributed to reduced funding and a consolidation to ensure operational efficiency and long-term sustainability. The layoffs are tied to closures at the International Children Center at 1620 West Chase Ave. (66 employees), the International Children Center at Beverly at 1209 West 98th St. (44 employees), and Casa Heartland at Princeton at 1628 West Morse Ave. (30 employees). The organization reported the planned reductions Feb. 17 to the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity and said the layoffs will take place April 1. Heartland spokesperson Robin Carroll emphasized commitments to support affected workers and to minimize impacts on the children served.
