Jerith Manufacturing, LLC
Layoff timeline
2 EVENTSJerith Manufacturing is closing its Northeast Philadelphia factory at 14400 McNulty Rd. because a nearly triple rent increase would make continuing operations there economically impractical. A layoff notice filed with the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry says the closure will affect 61 workers, with layoffs occurring in phases beginning Nov. 15 and 24 employees offered positions at a New Jersey facility owned by parent company Ameristar Perimeter Security. The notice states Jerith is “going out of business as a separate operating entity,” though Ameristar said Jerith will adopt a new operating model and shift some manufacturing, assembly, and transportation work to Ameristar sites in New Jersey and Tulsa. Thirty-eight of the 61 Philadelphia workers are represented by Teamsters Local 830; the company spends about $4.4 million on payroll at the site and the city stands to lose about $140,000 a year in tax revenue when it closes.
