Magic Leap, Inc. plans to lay off 193 employees at its Plantation, Florida headquarters as it stops developing first-party AR headsets and pivots to supplying waveguides and device-integration services. The WARN filing states the redundancies are scheduled to take effect on October 1, 2026, and affect roles across software, hardware, UX and design, product management, manufacturing engineering, quality, technical program management and senior leadership. The company said it is refocusing on waveguide manufacturing and device integration to commercialize its optical technology and manufacturing processes rather than sell complete devices under the Magic Leap brand. Magic Leap framed the restructuring as an alignment of its workforce with areas it sees as the greatest opportunity amid growing interest in AI-enabled wearables, but did not disclose how many employees will remain, a breakdown between hardware and supplier operations, or customer commitments for the new strategy.
