Layoff timeline
1 EVENTNorthwest Hardwoods Inc. filed a worker adjustment and retraining notification with the Washington state Employment Security Department reporting the closure of its Centralia facility and the planned permanent separation of 70 full-time employees. The notification, filed March 3 and dated the same day, lists May 2 as the separation date (the state database lists March 5 as the layoff start date) and names nearly 40 job types affected, including sawmill teams, boiler and kiln operators, planers, forklift operators, electricians and several planning and administrative roles. The company described the reason for the terminations simply as a facility closure and indicated the layoffs are expected to be permanent without relocation or contracting out of the positions. Northwest Hardwoods has not provided further comment explaining the closure; the notice was submitted by the company’s VP of Human Resources, Todd Bruhn.
