1 EVENTOwens & Minor brand Avid Medical notified Virginia and James City County on Sept. 16 that it will close its Toano facility at 9000 Westmont Drive and cease operations, with employment separations expected to begin on or about Nov. 25, 2026. The WARN-style notice states about 39 additional employees will be laid off after the initial separation around Thanksgiving, bringing the total planned layoffs to 419 employees. The Toano site serves as Avid Medical's headquarters and its primary manufacturing and distribution hub. Avid Medical, acquired by Medical Action Industries and later by Owens & Minor in 2014, has operated in Stonehouse Commerce Park since 1999; the closure and workforce reductions are presented as a planned facility shutdown in the notice.
