Paragon Space Development Corp., an Arizona-based aerospace company, laid off 70 employees after losing a major contract tied to NASA's planned Gateway station. The workforce reduction followed Northrop Grumman's termination of its agreement for life-support systems on the Gateway Habitation and Logistics Outpost (HALO), for which Paragon had been developing environmental control and life-support technologies under a more-than-$100 million contract. CEO Mark Greeley described the layoffs as one of the most difficult decisions in the company's 33-year history and said the change stems from NASA's shift from a lunar-orbiting Gateway to prioritizing lunar surface operations. Paragon emphasized that while the Gateway cancellation affected this program, the company intends to continue its broader mission serving government and commercial spaceflight initiatives.
