Pixelle Specialty Solutions announced it will cease all production at its Chillicothe mill effective Aug. 10, 2025, updating WARN Act notices to employees on June 10. The company said staffing levels and customer demand have declined, and although it has been exploring sale opportunities and working with JobsOhio and other officials, it is preparing to decommission the site if no qualified buyer emerges. Pixelle stated it is providing impacted employees with career transition services, job placement assistance and an employee assistance program. The company plans to transfer the property to an organization designated by JobsOhio or another government body to support redevelopment if the plant is not sold.

Strauss Borrelli PLLC is investigating Pixelle Specialty Solutions for a mass layoff at its Chillicothe, Ohio facility after the company notified the Ohio Department of Job & Family Services. The firm alleges Pixelle laid off 826 employees and may have violated the WARN Act by failing to provide 60 days' prior written notice, which could entitle affected workers to 60 days of pay and benefits. Pixelle, headquartered in Spring Grove, Pennsylvania, operates facilities in Pennsylvania and Ohio and produces specialty papers for printing and packaging. The notice was submitted on April 15, 2025, and the investigation seeks to determine whether the company complied with federal WARN Act requirements.
