Sapporo U.S.A. plans to shut Stone Brewing’s Escondido production facility and World Bistro & Gardens after failing to find a buyer, and has announced planned layoffs tied to that closure. The company said 58 employees will be laid off in October and that the remaining job cuts, totaling 220, are due to occur by January. Sapporo retained the Escondido property after selling Stone Brewing to Firestone Walker and is managing the closure separate from Stone’s ongoing operations under the new owner. Sapporo issued a statement committing to support affected Escondido employees during the transition, while Firestone Walker separately rehired about 200 former non-production staff for continued Stone operations at other sites.
