Stoelzle Glass USA, Inc.
Layoff timeline
1 EVENTStoelzle Glass USA temporarily laid off about 200 workers — roughly half its workforce at the Monaca, Pennsylvania plant — while completing a $100 million production upgrade including rebuilding a furnace, installing a new forming machine and improving forming, inspection, conveying and packaging operations. A notice from the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry reported the layoffs and the company said the workers are expected to be brought back by February 1 when the upgrade is finished. The furnace rebuild will raise melting capacity to about 400 tons daily and improve energy efficiency; the project is the primary reason given for the temporary workforce reduction. Stoelzle Glass purchased the former Anchor Hocking factory in 2021 and the company framed the layoffs as a temporary measure tied to the investment timetable.
