3 EVENTSZillow Group filed a WARN notifying Washington state that its subsidiaries plan to permanently lay off 91 employees across Washington beginning Oct. 5, 2026. The cuts will affect Zillow's Seattle headquarters and home-based workers statewide, spanning dozens of roles concentrated in technology, product development and management — notably senior product managers, software development engineers, senior UX researchers and related positions. The company said the reductions are part of a restructuring that includes relocation or outsourcing of some operations and maintained that headquarters and business operations will remain open; affected employees were notified more than 60 days before the planned separations and will continue to receive pay and benefits until their employment ends. The notice also stated workers who accept other positions at the company before the effective date will not be terminated and that none of the affected employees are union-represented or have bumping rights.
Zillow Group announced on August 4, 2026 that it cut over 500 positions, roughly 7% of its workforce, marking the company's second round of layoffs in 2026 after 200 jobs were cut in January. The workforce reduction coincided with the release of Q2 2026 financials showing $772 million in revenue but a $4 million net loss, driven largely by a $36 million one-time restructuring charge. Management cited a flat housing market and pressure from interest rates and low inventory as reasons for tightening its cost structure and shifting toward a service-based 'Zillow Preferred' model. The layoffs have drawn scrutiny because some high-performing employees were reportedly among those dismissed, and the company continues to face antitrust litigation related to rental listings.
