Health Care layoffs between Sept. 29–30, 2026 include a 147-job cut by Kaiser and WARN filings from City of Hope, BioMarin and Novo Nordisk.
Kaiser Permanente leads reported Health Care layoffs
Kaiser Permanente announced plans to lay off 147 business and administrative employees across California, according to reports by Yahoo Finance and the Los Angeles Times. The organization said the reductions will occur in November and affect 16 locations across Los Angeles, Orange, San Diego, Riverside and Alameda counties. The largest single-site reductions identified in those reports include 20 positions at an administrative office in Pasadena and 72 positions at an office in San Diego.
The reporting noted that the cuts do not include employees providing direct patient care and, per Kaiser, will not affect quality of care or service. Kaiser said it will offer severance, career support and outplacement services and encourage affected staff to seek other roles within the system, the reports added. The Oakland-based nonprofit employs roughly 180,000 people in California, the coverage noted.
WARN notices list three additional workforce reductions
Per WARN filings with state regulators, three other Health Care employers reported planned workforce reductions during the period:
- City of Hope filed a WARN notice reporting 73 employees affected.
- BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. filed a WARN notice reporting 117 employees affected.
- Novo Nordisk filed a WARN notice reporting 108 employees affected.
Those WARN filings provided the employee counts and were included in state regulatory disclosures; no additional details or locations were provided in the filings cited.
Summary
Across the reported actions dated in filings and media coverage, the Health Care sector recorded 445 employees affected by the announced reductions between the reporting window. The public reports include a detailed media account for Kaiser Permanente and WARN notices for City of Hope, BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc., and Novo Nordisk.
