Amazon-linked subcontractor shutdowns reportedly left 1,300+ NYC-area delivery drivers without WARN notice

A complaint filed Aug. 18 with New York's Labor Department alleges that Amazon and 13 subcontracted delivery firms shut down delivery sites or dismissed workers between September 2023 and October 2025, affecting more than 1,300 delivery drivers in New York City and nearby suburbs without the 90 days' WARN notice required by state law. The International Brotherhood of Teamsters accuses Amazon and the subcontractors of WARN Act violations and says affected workers could be owed up to $11 million in wages, benefits, and penalties. Amazon maintains that the drivers were employed by independent subcontractors (Delivery Service Partners) and says those contractors are responsible for complying with WARN requirements; the complaint is under review by the state Labor Department. Supporters are also pushing a Delivery Protection Act that would require Amazon to directly employ delivery workers rather than rely on local subcontractors.
