Gainwell Technologies Lays Off Hundreds of U.S. Employees Amid Debt Struggles

Gainwell Technologies LLC, a major Medicaid claims processor operating in roughly two-thirds of U.S. states and a significant contractor for Ohio Medicaid, has laid off hundreds of U.S. employees as it wrestles with nearly $6 billion in debt. The Bloomberg Law article reports the company has shifted some work offshore and experienced system errors that led to thousands of Ohio beneficiaries being erroneously disenrolled and major payment and recoupment issues for providers. Ohio legislators quietly disbanded a committee probing Gainwell’s contracts and performance, delaying oversight and an audit that is not due until the end of 2027.
