Novartis Cuts 322 Jobs at East Hanover, NJ Site as Part of Larger Workforce Reductions

Novartis announced a fourth round of cuts at its East Hanover, New Jersey site, letting go of 322 employees effective Oct. 2 per a WARN notice. Those layoffs bring the total number affected at the East Hanover location to 572 after prior rounds in March (114), April (60) and May (76). Overall, Novartis expects to let go of around 800 employees by the end of 2028 and has announced at least 792 job reductions in 2026, including a planned shutdown of a Wehr, Germany production site that will eliminate 220 positions by the end of 2028. The company has also cut workforce in 2025 (1,069 jobs) and said some biomedical research staff were a “select number” laid off in May, while continuing to pursue acquisitions and pipeline investments.
