Summary
Prime Healthcare Foundation is converting Suburban Community Hospital in East Norriton into a 15-bed behavioral health facility for adults 55 and older effective July 1, which will close other services. The hospital told state regulators it would lay off 109 people (a figure that includes part-time and certain per-diem staffers); 37 full-time staff will remain and 89 other full-time employees are being offered comparable positions at other Prime facilities. The facility had been licensed for 126 beds but saw steeply falling patient volumes, averaging eight patients per day so far this year, and had earlier limited services to emergency and diagnostic care. Graduate medical education and independent practices will continue through transitions under Roxborough Memorial Hospital.
