Barrette Outdoor Living Inc., a subsidiary of Atlanta-based Oldcastle APG that manufactures fencing, railing, decking and outdoor accents, permanently downsized its Salisbury facility at 745 Mid S. Drive, resulting in 63 workers being laid off effective July 1. The layoffs affected assemblers, packers, and machine and forklift operators, among other roles. Oldcastle's human resources manager cited revenue decline and an economic downturn as the reason in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed with the North Carolina Department of Commerce. The notice was sent on July 1 and indicates the job cuts are permanent.
