PayPal Holdings, Inc. filed a WARN showing 251 job cuts at its San Jose headquarters effective October 30, affecting more than 50 senior engineers, nearly 50 directors and over 40 senior managers as part of an engineering restructuring. The company said the cuts span over 100 engineering positions and are being made to reallocate savings into large-scale AI integration under a new Chief AI Transformation and Simplification Officer. CEO Enrique Lores previously announced a plan to reduce about 20% of PayPal's global workforce over two to three years to achieve at least $1.5 billion in run-rate savings; the San Jose reductions are part of that broader plan which also includes cuts in India, Ireland and Israel. Georgia-Pacific Gypsum LLC plans to permanently close its Tacoma gypsum facility at 1240 Alexander Ave., eliminating 120 jobs. A notice filed with the state and a letter to the Washington Employment Security Department say affected employees are expected to be laid off on Oct. 30, though some jobs could end earlier or later and some workers may remain to assist with the shutdown. The company said it will provide at least 60 days of pay and benefits in accordance with federal and state WARN laws. The eliminated positions include production associates, loaders, forklift operators, maintenance workers, electricians, supervisors and managers; some hourly employees are represented by Teamsters Local 117 and employees do not have bumping rights.
